 The Society of Illustrators invites artists, publishers, and agents in the children's book field to submit to the 31st annual exhibition of The Original Art. Founded by Dilys Evans in 1980, the show celebrates the fine art of children's book illustration.  It has been sponsored by the Society of Illustrators for the past twenty-one years.  The selection process will be by a jury of outstanding illustrators, art directors, editors, and experts in the field of children's publishing. They will choose the books that will be represented in the show and select gold and silver medal recipients.  Jurying is anonymous, and an artist may have no more than two books accepted for the show.

Publishers, please pass along an entry form or information to eligible artists if you are not able to submit their work.

 ELIGIBILITY
· All entries must be published in the U.S. Books printed overseas are eligible.
· Books © 2010 and 2011 and F&Gs © 2011 will be accepted.
· Picture books and other illustrated books whose prime market is children twelve years and younger will be considered.    Chapter/young adult book must have at least eight full-page images. No jackets. No textbooks.
· Only illustrated books (traditional or digital media) are eligible.  No photographic books.

HOW TO ENTER
· Submit printed books or F&Gs. Entry material will not be returned.  Entries will be donated to appropriate charities.
· Fill in all the information on the entry form and tape it to the back of the book.  Artist's address, not c/o publisher or representative, is required.  

ENTRY FEE
$30 per title / $20 for SI members submitting their own work
Fee must accompany entries. Please make checks payable to: Society of Illustrators.  If paying by credit card  
(Visa/MC/Amex), please attach information (type of card, name on card, number, exp. date) on a separate sheet of paper with entry form.

The Next Wave Art Salon is an exciting two-day event that brings together Chicago-area artists of different backgrounds and mediums in a found-space in downtown Elgin, IL.
The salon is designed to attract up-and-coming artists with innovative approaches to their art form and is open to artists of all ages and genres.We’ll have painters, sculptors, knitters, photographers, fire performers, actors, filmmakers, writers, and dancers all under one roof, showing their stuff and doing their thing.

MURAL artist needed

Proposals for a Mural for the Eisenhower Public Library District, Harwood Heights, IL

Summary of Project
A 4’ X 21’ mural is proposed on the south wall of Kids World, in the Eisenhower Public Library. Interested parties are welcome to view the space, and preview the existing mural
Theme - Dragons and books.

The Kids department has always wanted to feature this theme in their department.
A patron purchased the poster “Priceless Treasure” by Sue Dawe
(http://home.simplyweb.net/suedawe/gallery.html) for this department. Kids of all
ages loved that dragon. We wanted to create a dragon of our own.
Main Features
The following are things we would like to see included:
1. one or more dragons—dragon should be child friendly but not childish
2. dragon should be reading or flying off with books
3. a forest
4. water
Practical Considerations

Work should be done on canvas. Canvas can depict one long  scene or it can be separated to show multiple scenes
Submit your idea on one (1) 18” x 24” sheet of paper or cardstock. Alternately, you  can submit your idea, and up to five (5) examples of other completed works, on a  disc in JPEG, PNG, PDF, or TIFF format.
Dimensions should be to scale (1 inch = 1 foot).
All submissions become property of the Eisenhower Public Library District,  and will not be returned.

Budget
No budget has been set at this time. However, in your application, under budget,  please include cost of all materials and labor.
Eligibility
This proposal is open to any artist 18 (eighteen) years or older.

Summer 2011 Grants Internship

Established in 1978, the Terra Foundation for American Art works to foster a greater understanding and appreciation of historical art of the United States. The foundation has made it a priority to create an international dialogue that is lively and relevant, encouraging new perspectives that interpret American art in dynamic ways and making opportunities for engagement that resonate with individuals around the globe. Summer Internship, Grants Program
Reports to: Program Officers, Grants Manager, and Program and Communications Associate
Duration: JuneAugust for 3 days a week (start and end dates are negotiable)

Key Responsibilities Could Include:
·        Assist with the development of the Civil War in Art web-based teaching resource, including writing object descriptions, facilitating the summer professional development/curriculum development workshop for teachers, and editing lesson plans
·        Learn how to use the open-source software Omeka in order to enter and edit content for the Civil War in Art website
·        Help prepare for and facilitate the Terra Teacher Lab summer institute
·        Assist with Terra Collection Initiative projects, including research, writing, and rights and reproductions
·        Learn how to use the grant management software GIFTS
·        Write select sections of grant dockets and enter content into GIFTS
·        Assist with the exhibition grant program evaluation project meant to both streamline past data and set up procedures to track incoming data
·        Audit the grant files in anticipation of the annual financial audit
·        Enter data and refine mailing list database in GIFTS
·        Assist with facilitation of usability testing on the foundation’s website
·        Learn how to use the foundation’s website content management system
·        Help maintain the foundation’s website, including the events calendar and Chicago page

·        Must have completed a masters degree, preferably in the history of art
·        Must possess a strong interest in American art, preferably the nineteenth century and/or Civil War-era due to the nature of current projects

Studio Assistant Position

Spudnik Press Cooperative is a comprehensive cooperative artist studio dedicated to encouraging new talent
in fine art printmaking in an alternative art space. Open to all levels of printmakers, Spudnik Press provides
common studio space capable of printing traditional as well as photographic litho, relief, and silkscreen
prints. Additionally, Spudnik Press fosters a greater public awareness and understanding of prints and artmaking
in general by offering demonstrations, workshop, critiques, and gallery shows.
The Studio Assistant Position will work closely with the Executive Director, supporting all programming,
including marketing, outreach, shop maintenance, education and fundraising. The studio assistant will be
expected to seek new revenue resources, mainly through creating a marketing plan and materials for
consignment printing. The studio assisant will provide support for artists using the studio as well as
administrative support. This is a part-time position for 15 hours per week. Day-to-day job duties include the
following:
• Manage physical space, cleanliness and safety. Maintain inventory and supplies.
• Monitor Open Studio sessions as needed. Coordinate monitor schedules and training. Provide
support, feedback, and additional training to monitors as needed.
• Work with Director to advertise and organize upcoming events, including coordination of volunteers,
installation of artwork, distribution of press releases, and communication with participating artists
• Assist with implementation of marketing and advertising, including design and printing of marketing
materials, web marketing, distribution of materials, and occassional participation in area events.
• Create and initiate a marketing plan for consignment printing.
• Regular website maitenance and frequent updates of content.
• Work with interns and volunteers to assist with Studio Assistant responsibilities.
The ideal candidate will be able to work with Spudnik Press to expand the position over time, including
printing professional consignment jobs, accounting, communication with teaching artists, students, and
members, and coordinating special events and projects, as well as teaching opportunities.
Qualifications include:
• Extensive experience creating fine art prints utilizing multiple processes, such as screenprinting,
intaglio, lithography, letterpress, relief, and offset printing.
• Samples of prints exemplifying professional quality printing
• Experience working (as employee or independent artist) in a professional printshop or outside of a
classroom environment.
• Adminstrative, sustomer service, or fundraising experience
• Comfortable using Adobe software
• Strong belief in the importance of community creative spaces and interest in utilizing Spudnik Press’
facilities
• Interest in the field of education, teaching, and community engagement
• Strong organizational skills
• Strong work ethic and ability to work independently
• Strong communication skills and outgoing demeanor
Compensation is $10/hour with complimentary Keyholder access while an employee of Spudnik Press.

The Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) seeks two Lead Artists to co-teach and co-guide The Creative Agency (TCA at MCA), a rigorous new program for 15-19 year olds that invites participants to collectively explore what art is (see link for more information). Under the supervision of the MCA's Coordinator of Youth and Family Programs, Lead Artists actively participate in recruitment, participant selection and outreach; co-create the TCA at MCA curriculum and implement the program, adjusting plans as needed; teach weekly sessions and co-guide program participants during the course of the program; and maintain regular, proactive communication with partner Lead Artist and MCA staff, ensuring the full integration of the program within the core activities of the museum.

Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Fine Arts, Humanities, Human Development, Education or Art Education. Master's degree preferred. Active creative practice (in visual, performance, writing or media-based art) required. Minimum three years experience teaching teens and youth. Minimum one year experience teaching youth in out-of-school environments and one year experience in curriculum development and student assessment in formal or informal settings. Candidates must be able to work collaboratively to co-plan and co-lead a youth program, develop curriculum, and evaluate progress. Experience in program planning, implementation and evaluation preferred. Candidates will have knowledge of gallery-based teaching, art interpretation, and experience teaching effective verbal communication. Candidates will have a demonstrated knowledge of and interest in contemporary art. Active knowledge of new media and digitally-based social networking tools required. Strong knowledge of arts organizations, artists and arts programs in the Chicago area preferred. Ideal candidates will demonstrate creativity, flexibility, and resourcefulness and must also demonstrate a capacity for giving feedback and incorporating feedback into practice. Position requires a professional demeanor, good judgment, and excellent people skills, including effective verbal communication skills. 12 hours per week, Saturdays 1:30-5 pm and 7.5 hours on other weekdays and select evenings as needed to plan and implement the program. Projected start date June 6, 2011. Program launch date September 10, 2011. This is a one-year temporary position with possibility for renewal.
