MEMS devices are mechanical in nature, so they also need isolation from spurious or harmful mechanical inputs. Vibration and shock from the end use application’s environment, as well as during handling and transport, can cause MEMS structures to vibrate, collide, fracture, and/or generate particles. The package can provide a degree of mechanical isolation by damping external shocks and preventing damage to the MEMS die. The package could also contain an inert pressurized gas or a liquid that provides viscous damping against spurious mechanical motion. This may also be employed to engineer the dynamic response of MEMS devices, such as to prevent excessive ringing. thought leadership strategy
