Production Specialist

Sourcebooks, Inc., a leading independent book publisher located in the western suburbs of Chicago, seeks an outstanding individual to join our production department in page production and design role.  This is an entry level position reporting to the production manager, working primarily on setting up InDesign files for page production.  This is not a design heavy position, but an eye toward book design and knowledge of XML is a plus.  Requirements

Design/Technical skills:

• Demonstrate strong typography skills
• Understand printing industry in all areas—specifically 1/C through 4/C process, spot color, coatings for covers, paper knowledge, etc.
• Knowledge of graphic arts procedures and process
• Proficient in Mac-based environment; expert in inDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop applications
• Creative, attentive to detail; ability to take direction and follow through
• Able to take creative criticism and provide creative feedback
• Keep on top of industry trends in technology, printing, creative issues
• A background in newspaper, magazine, advertising, or publishing a strong plus
